Paving over a failed surface transfers every one of its problems into the new one. Cracks reflect through, soft spots keep moving, and the added height creates drainage and edge problems that were never there before. Milling solves this by mechanically removing the worn asphalt layer down to sound material, leaving a stable, textured base the new surface can actually bond to.
CDT Contracting Group provides milling for parking lots, roads, and drives across DeSoto County, usually as the first phase of a resurfacing project. Milling also keeps the finished surface at the correct height, so curbs, drains, and doorways keep working the way they were designed to.
Why It Matters
Why Not Just Pave Over It?
It is the question every property owner reasonably asks, because paving over is cheaper on the day.
The problem is reflective cracking: the crack pattern in the buried layer works its way up through new asphalt, often within a few seasons, and the money spent on the overlay is now part of the problem. Overlays also raise the surface, which can strand drains below grade and create lips at every transition.
Milling costs more up front and repays it in surface life. The new asphalt bonds to a prepared, stable base at the correct height, which is why resurfacing done on a milled surface outlasts an overlay on a failed one. When a surface genuinely does not need milling, we say that too.
